Aymeric Laporte was carried off in the first half with what looked like a serious knee injury, and boss Pep Guardiola will be sweating over the centre-back's fitness with the Champions League group stage kicking off in just over a fortnight.

The Manchester City striker has scored in every game of the new Premier League campaign, helping himself to two in his side's meeting with Brighton on Saturday.

His previous 58 games against the 14 clubs who make up the "other" teams in the top flight had seen Guardiola win 50, draw five and collect 155 points from an available 174.

"I think he's gone to hospital".

"In some ways, and maybe people who don't support Liverpool will not agree with what I'm going to say right now, but in some ways Liverpool are that good a side, they probably deserve a title".

Man City won both of their matches against Brighton last season (2-0 and 4-1) and is aiming for the same result this time around.

The 25-year-old collided with Brighton's Adam Webster in the first half and went down clutching his knee.

"I think they gave us a fair game but it was a decent score for us".

In their final match before the first global break of the season, City immediately clicked into gear with David Silva registering his 86th Premier League assist with a flawless pull back for De Bruyne.

He received lengthy treatment before having to be substituted.

The change did not disrupt City's play as the lead was doubled just before the break as a neat passing move involving Mahrez and De Bruyne ended with Sergio Aguero rifling the ball beyond Ryan.

"Sergio scored goals when he was in Argentina at 16 years".

City's fourth, after 78 minutes, saw Aguero show his selfless side as the Argentinian found substitute Bernardo Silva in space and the Portuguese worldwide scored from a wide angle with his first touch.

Laporte came off worse after stepping across his fellow centre-back's path around 10 minutes before the interval.

Brighton nearly immediately struck back, but Ederson raced from his line to make a fine save to deny Leandro Trossard.
