Amid Controversy, Maine National Guard Confirms Stay At Trump Resort

The deal with the US Defence Logistics Agency (DLA), which manages the global supply chain for the US Army, Air Force, and Navy, is by far the airport's single biggest revenue stream.

Over the weekend the U.S. Air Force announced that Air Mobility Command would review its guidance for the selection of airports and lodging accommodation for air crews during worldwide flights.

There is no commercial relationship between the Scottish Government-owned Prestwick Airport and the Trump Turnberry resort owned by the United States president, Scotland's Transport Secretary has told MSPs.

On taking office, the president did not fully divest from the Trump Organization, which is now run by two of his sons.

Marc Short, the vice president's chief of staff, previously told reporters that although Trump had not directed Pence to stay at his resort, he suggested doing so.

President Trump on Monday tried to tamp down controversy over the issue after reports that a joint Air Force and Alaska Air National Guard unit traveling to Kuwait stayed at Turnberry, which was more than 50 miles from the airbase where they landed for an overnight stay. While he emphasized that the decisions had "NOTHING TO DO WITH ME", he did praise the "good taste" of those who choose to visit his luxury hotels.

It wasn't just one plane.

A recent Scotsman investigation detailed how Prestwick's parent company has received more than £9.02m for 644 orders to refuel US Armed Forces aircraft between October 2017 and March this year.

The new order means the e-safety commissioner will be responsible for monitoring the eight blacklisted sites. If they remove the material they can be unblocked.

"We should not stand by as Scotland's good name is tarnished by association with the toxic Trump brand".

"We understand that US Service members lodging at higher-end accommodations, even if within government rates, might be allowable but not advisable", the military said. The news outlet also reported that a unit of the Maine Air National Guard stayed at Trump Turnberry in September 2018 while on the way back to the US from Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. But, again, it seems clear that the problem here is that POTUS has a side hustle, not that the Defense Department is trying to curry favor.

"If the Department does not begin producing the requested documents this week, the Committee will be forced to consider alternative measures to compel compliance, including a subpoena", Cummings and Raskin wrote.

When the partnership between Prestwick Airport and the Trump Organization was announced, a press release explained that people visiting Turnberry, which is 20 miles from the airport, would be provided transfers via "the luxurious Trump helicopter, executive cars or private hire".

Today, Scotland's Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Michael Matheson, was quizzed by MSPs about the Scottish Government's knowledge of the links between publicly-owned Prestwick Airport and Trump Turnberry.

Beginning in 2015, the U.S. Air Force contracted with Prestwick Airport in Glasgow, Scotland, to be one of the dozen military and civilian airfields in Europe where aircraft could refuel. He added that the Air Force has been using Prestwick for stopovers since at least the late 1990s.

He added the airport had been used by the military "for many decades" for stopovers and refuelling.

"This airport has a large parking area, is open 24/7/365, and has been contracted by DoD for fuel at standardized prices", Thomas explained. Is it different that if I go and stay or eat at a Marriott here or eat at the Trump.
