Playing in his 161st global, the 34-year-old notched his eighth hat-trick for his country and the 54th of his career to help Portugal through what had threatened to turn into a frustrating evening.

Ronaldo starred for the reigning European champions in the Group B clash in Vilnius, taking his tally to 93 worldwide goals.

After back-to-back draws to start their campaign, Portugal recorded much-needed wins over Serbia and Lithuania.

Portugal cast itself a Euro 2020 qualifying safety net thanks to a deep run in the Nations League last spring.

The victory saw Portugal cement second place in Group B of the Euro 2022 qualifiers, with eight points from four games.

The two strikes that followed resulted from some lax defending, allowing the Juventus star to score with relative ease and put the game away.

Portugal host Luxembourg and visit group leaders Ukraine next month.
