Young Colorado Climate Activists Join Forces With Greta Thunberg In DC

Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.), chair of that committee, said that the youth climate movement "has grabbed the attention of the world" and that Congress needs to act on the urgency of the issue, including enacting into law the Climate Action Now Act, which the House has passed, to encourage the United States to remain a party to the Paris climate accord. On Monday, she met with former president Barack Obama, who called her "one of our planet's greatest advocates".

Mr Trump, one of the few world leaders who openly questions the science of climate change, has made a priority of rolling back Obama-era climate protections he says are not necessary and hurt the USA economy.

The assembly's president François Paradis said that Thunberg's team sent a message informing the National Assembly stating that Thunberg was "honoured" to be invited but was unfortunately too busy to come according to the Le Journal de Quebec.

She said in a video message to CAST: "I think what you're trying to achieve with CAST is extremely important and essential because we need to take drastic measures to change our lifestyles and our current social and economic system because we can not go on like we are today, it is too unsustainable".

'As a proud American, as a life-long conservative and as a young person, I urge you to accept climate change for the reality it is and respond accordingly.

The plaintiffs were joined by teenage Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.

The website fridaysforfuture.org lists more than 100 climate strikes planned in Canada, including events in all 10 provinces and two territories. 'Why should we do anything, just look at the USA,' they say, just so you know.

Their aim is to increase support among U.S. lawmakers for the urgent action on climate change, which Greta and others are campaigning for. She's in Washington for several days of rallies and lobbying efforts ahead of Friday's global climate strike.

Standing on the steps of the Supreme Court, 19-year-old Xiuhtezcatl Martinez from Boulder said his concerns about climate change were spelled out in smoke on the skyline.

"We're on a first-name basis with the climate crisis-Sandy, Maria, Irma, Dorian-my fellow plaintiffs and I are directly impacted every day", Barret said, listing off recent storms made worse by climate change. She ended her acceptance speech with a powerful promise: "See you on the streets".

While congressman Garret Graves acknowledged that "we need to take aggressive action", he said it was critical to make "sure we´re moving forward based on facts".
