The South Carolina Republican and fierce Trump defender Lindsey Graham announced the investigation Tuesday as the Trump administration ordered a key witness in the Ukraine affair not to appear as scheduled before the House Intelligence Committee.

Giuliani has also indicated he may decline to testify to the House committee, which is run by Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).

"I have heard on numerous occasions disturbing allegations by Rudy Giuliani about corruption in Ukraine and the many improprieties surrounding the firing of former Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin", Graham wrote on Twitter.

With the US ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland sidelined in his desire to appear and answer questions, cable TV regular Giuliani will get the chance to air his claims of Ukrainian corruption that he wants aired.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the top ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, said she would love the chance to ask Mr. Giuliani about the role he played in "seeking the Ukrainian government's assistance to investigate one of the president's political rivals".

"Democratic members have plenty of questions for Mr. Giuliani, and this would give us an opportunity to help separate fact from fiction for the American people", she said in a statement. A hearing with Giuliani potentially would turn the spotlight over to some of Biden's competitors in the Democratic primary who sit on the Judiciary Committee - Kamala Harris, Cory Booker and Amy Klobuchar. However, there has been no evidence of wrongdoing by either Biden.

Giuliani went on to say, however, that "Given the nature of [Graham's] invitation about my concerns I might be able to do it without discussing privileged information".

Giuliani and other Trump allies claim Biden is corrupt because he called for Shokin's dismissal years ago while Shokin was supposed to be investigating the gas company Biden's son Hunter worked for. Schiff and other Democratic House chairmen said they meant to subpoena Sondland to compel his deposition.

Trump and Giuliani also have suggested that Ukraine was involved in interfering in the 2016 election as they've sought to undermine the origins of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russian election meddling, an allegation Ukrainian officials have rejected. The prosecutor, in fact, had been viewed by the worldwide community as an impediment to investigating corruption and Biden's efforts to have him removed were done in coordination with other Western governments.
