United Kingdom media identified that person as 2012 London Paralympic Games cycling bronze medallist James Brown.

"I think there should be a price to pay for that", he said.

The demonstration was part of a three-day occupation of London City airport in a protest against climate change.

The year-old group backed by Swedish teen activist Greta Thunberg is spearheading a two-week global action that kicked off Monday with partial shutdowns of traffic in cities stretching from Sydney to NY.

Aer Lingus said that a passenger was removed from the flight to Dublin due to "disruptive behaviour onboard".

The group said its members planned to "peacefully occupy and shut down" the airport's terminal building from 9am on Thursday by lying, sitting or gluing themselves in front of the departure and arrival gates at the east London airport.

Cressida Dick, the head of London's Metropolitan Police, said in a video statement on Thursday that more than 600 protesters have been arrested across London in the past two days. After they were removed, some activists remained outside the building.

London City, favoured by business travellers because of its easy links to the main financial district, said it remains open and operational, with 55 flights having arrived and 58 departed as of 12:15 p.m. People should check the status of their flight before heading to the airport, it said. Police said they had made "a number" of arrests.

A spokesman for London City Airport said as of 09:15 BST more than 60 flights which had either arrived or departed.

The environmental protests have been taking place in cities around the world.

Elsewhere at the airport, activists continued to cause disruption outside the terminal, as several sat down on the zebra crossing, blocking traffic going in and out of the passenger drop-off zone.

Hundreds of young people gathered on September 20 at Prague's Old Town Square and in many other Czech towns joining the worldwide climate change protests launched by the Swedish activist Greta Thunberg.

Police said in the early afternoon that they had arrested "a number of people" outside the airport and one person on a flight on the runway.

As of 9am United Kingdom time Thursday, police had made 842 arrests, totaled over the course of several days, across London that are connected to the Extinction Rebellion protests.
