India win by an innings and 137 runs, sealing the series against South Africa and maintaining their 100% World Test Championship record.

In the second Test match of South Africa's 2019 tour of India, Kohli became the first-ever Indian captain to enforce a follow-on on the Proteas.

South Africa put up some resistance in their first innings with Keshav Maharaj, who made 72, and Vernon Philander, 44 not out, putting on 109 runs for the ninth wicket to frustrate the Indian bowlers.

Ashwin broke the stand with Maharaj's wicket and then got last man Rabada to return figures of 4-69.

The 37-year-old Gambhir feels the earlier India skippers including Ganguly and Dhoni had "defensive approach to draw Test matches". "When it comes to this Indian team, there's a lot of experience in that dressing room, there's a lot of Test matches behind their names", a dejected Du Plessis said after losing the series and Gandhi-Mandela Trophy.

"In the last three to four years it's wonderful to see the hunger in this group to keep improving".

Elgar and Du Plessis' third-wicket stand was worth 49 but when Du Plessis was caught behind by wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha after inside-edging onto his pad, South Africa went on to lose three wickets for nine runs. "He was too good". Du Plessis's team has run around in an inferiority circle in India, trying but failing to break away from it. Virat Kohli & Co. came away looking head and shoulders above the South African batsmen, also because India's bowlers did a far superior job than their counterparts.

The Proteas were dismissed for 275 at the end of day three in response to India's 601-5 declared, 127 short of the follow-on. Ishant Sharma however got India off to a flying start when he trapped Markram LBW on just the 2nd delivery.

South Africa, already 1-0 behind in the series, trail by 565 runs.

The win also consolidated India´s number-one position in the world Test championship with 200 points.
