The Duchess of Cambridge wore a long pale blue variation of the shalwar kameez, a dress or tunic worn over pants, Pakistan's traditional national outfit that many on social media and in the fashion industry had hoped she would don during her visit.

Their children Prince George, 6, Princess Charlotte, 4, and Prince Louis, 1, will not be joining Kate and William on the tour as the eldest children are at school.

In another nod to husband Prince William's late mother, the Duchess of Cambridge accessorised with silver earrings, channeling the styling choice made by Diana.

For her arrival outfit, the Duchess dressed respectfully in what looks like a tradition ensemble: an icy blue, long-sleeved dress with matching pants underneath. William, meanwhile, looked smart in a navy suit.

British royal couple Prince William and Kate Middleton on Monday evening arrived for a five-day visit to Pakistan.

The visit was arranged at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, at a time of ongoing tensions between Pakistan and India over the disputed region of Kashmir.

Britain ended its colonial rule over the Indian subcontinent in 1947 and divided it into two nations, India and Pakistan.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will remain in the country till October 18.

Previously, royals stopped visiting because of safety concerns with Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, being the last members of the royal family to visit Pakistan in 2006, according to Forbes.

British High Commissioner to Pakistan Thomas Drew on Sunday expressed optimism that visit of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Pakistan will help promote historic relations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.

A statement released by Kensington Palace earlier this month described William and Kate's visit to Pakistan as "the most complex tour undertaken by The Duke and Duchess to date, given the logistical and security considerations".

On the heels of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's tour of Africa, Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are embarking on their own royal tour of Pakistan.
