Volvo Unveils Ambitious EV Introduction Plan

To meet the anticipated growth in demand for its Recharge cars, Volvo Cars said it will triple production capacity for electrified cars.

Bringing out the fact sheet, the XC40 Recharge's P8 AWD powertrain features a dual-motor setup - one on each axle - that provides a total system output of 402 hp (408 PS or 300 kW) and 660 Nm of torque.

Volvo will also look to improve its own carbon footprint, with an additional goal of reducing its own emissions by 40% by putting everything from manufacturing, operations and shipping under the magnifying glass.

The new Volvo XC Recharge can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.

Volvo will offer buyers of its plug-in hybrid models a year's worth of free electricity to promote them to use their cars as efficiently as possible.

Volvo's electric XC40 is finally here, and it's been badged an XC40 Recharge.

Boris Johnson says Brexit 'deal' reached with EU
Four years after it comes into effect, Northern Ireland's politicians will have a say on whether to keep the deal going. Parliament already rejected a previous Brexit deal crafted by former British Prime Minister Theresa May three times.

The XC40 Recharge isn't an entirely unique vehicle, but a battery-powered version of the recently introduced XC40 subcompact SUV.

That would put the range of the Volvo XC40 Recharge below the Tesla Model 3, Chevy Bolt EV, Kia Niro and Hyundai Kona. If 8.0 kwh is now usable (the usable capacity in Volvo's latest XC90 T8 plug-in hybrid), and owners are able to plug in twice a day, that's potentially about $773 for the year.

As we covered in early October, Volvo has also applied its safety-first ethos to the XC40 Recharge, ensuring passenger safety and battery integrity in the event of a collision via a new safety structure for the all-electric Volvo XC40.

Hakan Samuelsson, Volvo Car Group CEO, said that this plan will fundamentally change the structure of the company.

The XC40 Recharge is equipped with an all-wheel drive powertrain and a 78 kilowatt-hour battery that can travel more than 400 kilometers (248 miles) on a single charge, in accordance with WLTP.

Volvo today introduced the XC40 Recharge, its first-ever fully electric auto and the first model to appear in its brand new Recharge vehicle line. The Recharge will connect with Volvo's connected services platform, Volvo On Call, to track energy use. Volvo said it would include one year of complimentary charging for all its electrified vehicles-which extends to plug-in hybrids already on sale-as part of the purchase price. Those five electric cars, along with the Swedish firm's plug-in hybrid models, will carry the new Recharge branding. On the inside, it comes with an Android-powered touchscreen head-unit with Google Maps, Google Assistant, Play Store and Volvo On Call.
