House Democrats not easing up on impeachment probe

"Your failure or refusal to comply with the subpoena, including at the direction or behest of the President or the White House, shall constitute evidence of obstruction of the House's impeachment inquiry and may be used as an adverse inference against you and the President", the committees said in a letter to Giuliani last month.

Giuliani was sent the subpoena by the House Intelligence Committee on September 30, following consultation with the Foreign Affairs, Oversight and Reform, and Judiciary committees.

The White House's Office of Management and Budget has also declined to comply with the investigation and defied a congressional subpoena, according to ABC News.

Donald Trump's former Russian Federation adviser has testified for more than nine hours behind closed doors as the latest witness summoned in the impeachment inquiry against the U.S. president over his request that Ukraine investigate a political rival.

The probe facilities on a July 25 cellphone name during which Trump requested Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to research the overseas enterprise dealings of Hunter Biden, son of political rival Joe Biden. Career State Department official George Kent testified before lawmakers from three House committees on October 15 as part of the Democrat-run impeachment inquiry. Another quoted national security adviser John Bolton as calling Giuliani a "hand grenade" for his back-channel efforts to get Ukraine to investigate Biden and Biden's son Hunter.

The meeting happened about two weeks before a July 25 phone call in which Trump asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to investigate unsubstantiated allegations against the Bidens, the call at the centre of the investigations.

Democratic leaders had been gauging support for a vote to authorize the impeachment inquiry after Trump and Republicans pushed them for a roll call. Sondland said he was concerned that the president delegated to Giuliani foreign policy responsibilities that he thought belonged to the State Department, but Sondland followed Trump's instructions anyway. "At this time, I do not need a lawyer".

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee overseeing the probe, has praised the State Department officials for stepping forward, under subpoena, to shed light on the matter.

"Jon Sale, who is a lifelong friend, has represented me for the sole objective of analyzing the request and responding".

As part of his final acts as his attorney, Sale sent a letter to Congress on Tuesday replying to the subpoena Giuliani was sent.
