Pharmacies running low on flu shots

Health Care Professionals recommend that you get your flu shot before Halloween.

The district expects to receive another supply of flu shots by next week and stress the importance of kids taking advantage of the program.

Influenza (the flu) is a respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that can easily spread to other people.

The number of influenza cases in San Diego this season has more than tripled compared to previous year, county health officials said Friday.

Flu vaccines are administered as a shot or nasal spray.

"If you got the vaccine, it protected 70 to 75 percent of the time, if you get the vaccine, you've got a 100 percent chance of getting influenza".

In the United States of America, influenza viruses and pneumonia rank among the top 10 causes of death for American Indians and Alaska Natives, says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Vermilion County Health Department will hold an adult flu clinic from noon to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 21 in the Grant Township Office at 525 South Market Street in Hoopeston. Data suggests that anywhere from 12,000 to 56,000 Americans died from the flu in 2018, more than any year in recent history.
