But Schiff also said House Democrats don't intend to wait on this being resolved in court and they're prepared to move ahead with their impeachment inquiry.

In a letter sent to Democratic House lawmakers, Pelosi, D-Calif., said the resolution "affirms the ongoing, existing investigation" and "establishes the procedure" for future investigative steps.

House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff said that former national security adviser John Bolton's deputy Charles Kupperman may be held in contempt if he doesn't cooperate in the impeachment inquiry.

Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, has said he will not comply with subpoenas, citing the White House counsel's contention that the probe is invalid.

His account strongly suggests that he may have been among the aides the whistle-blower referred to in his complaint when he wrote that White House officials had recounted the conversation between Mr. Trump and Mr. Zelensky to him, and "were deeply disturbed by what had transpired in the phone call".

Since Democrats launched their impeachment inquiry into whether Trump abused the power of his office to prevail in the upcoming presidential election, multiple current and former administration officials have come to Capitol Hill to testify.

Much like Cousin Greg torn between his terrifying grandfather, Ewan Roy, and his even more terrifying "fun uncle" Logan Roy (yeah that's right I threw in a Succession reference), Kupperman filed a lawsuit on Friday, in an attempt to seek guidance from a federal judge about whether he should listen to the White House, which demanded he not attend, or to Congress.

Lawsuit Alleges Southwest Airlines Pilots Watched Secret Camera Bathroom Video
Steinaker's lawyer, Ronald Goldman, said to The New York Times it is unclear if the airline did either of those things . Renee Steinaker asserts she saw some of the video when she entered the cockpit as the pilot himself used the restroom.

William Taylor, the current top diplomat in Ukraine, testified last week that he was told the aid would be withheld until the country conducted investigations into Democrat Joe Biden and his family and into Ukraine's involvement in the 2016 us presidential election. He again reported his concerns to NSC's lead counsel, he said. "This would all undermine USA national security", Vindman argues, substituting his views - or those of the "interagency" - for those of the president himself. In a statement, Kupperman said he was awaiting "judicial clarity". Democrats have indicated that they are likely to use the president's letter and the no-show witnesses to write an article of impeachment against Trump for obstruction of justice, rather than individually challenge the noncompliance in court. But he predicted that the White House, which has vowed to obstruct the investigation, would fight a Bolton appearance.

Democrats in turn said they would not let further legal maneuverings delay their work.

Following Kupperman's failure to appear, a lawyer for another witness scheduled for deposition this week - Tim Morrison, the National Security Council's Europe and Eurasia director - issued a statement saying that he still plans to appear if subpoenaed.

"We are not willing to allow the White House to engage us in a lengthy game of rope-a-dope in the courts, so we will move forward", Schiff said. He will say he does not know who the whistleblower is.

"I stated to Ambassador Sondland that his statements were inappropriate" and that the "request to investigate Biden and his son had nothing to do with national security, and that such investigations were not something the N.S.C. was going to get involved in or push", he added.

At least nine others have testified despite being instructed by the White House not to do so, Schiff said.

Senate Republicans are now reportedly scrambling on how to respond and whether or not to support a planned resolution to condemn the House impeachment inquiry.
