YouTube launches campaign to plant 20 million trees by 2020

After 5 days, the total number of #TeamTrees been in for nearly 8 million and that Jimmy MrBeast' By, among others, due to the hundreds of other YouTubers who are in the action and have shared their a lot of that money is donated.

Elon Musk, tech investor and entrepreneur, gave rise to a number of speculations after a whopping donation of a million dollar to a tree plantation campaign.

The idea actually came from fans By. Each dollar goes toward planting one tree, and the group has collected more than $8 million to date. That did not need to be told twice.

This project is essentially supporting The Arbor Day Foundation, a body that claims to be the "biggest tree-planting organisation in the world" and one that's on a mission to help the planet by planting more trees worldwide.

Team Trees is an initiative by YouTuber MrBeast. On YouTube and Twitter with the hashtag #TeamTrees for days trending.

Musk's Twitter name change has, predictably, already spawned memes on Reddit and social media.

After Brownlee had replied with the details of the donation, Musk tweeted, "Ok, sounds legit, will donate 1M trees".

After Musk promised to donate $1 million, YouTube pledged to match the donation.

Musk's donation has allowed the project to plant one million trees on his behalf, the largest contribution recorded by the YouTuber so far, with Dorsey helping plant an additional 150,000 trees.

Musk also proceeded to change his Twitter name to "Treelon" and changed his profile picture with an image of a forest.

Fundraising will continue through December, then the first of the trees will be planted in January starting in warmer climates like Florida and Texas, Nelson said, and eventually reach every continent except Antarctica.

He and fellow YouTuber Mark Rober have partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation to raise the money and get the trees in the ground. #TeamTrees is a movement and their goal is to plant 20 million trees in 2020!
