It was the Duke's seventh visit to the Field of Remembrance, having represented the Royal family at the event annually since 2013, but the first time that his wife has joined him.

Numerous families they leave behind gathered each week at the Broom Farm community Centre in the centre of the army estate.

Prince Harry said he was "in awe" of the families who get on with their lives while their military partners are away for so long.

He said: "I can't imagine what it's like to miss so much as they change so quickly".

Most of the Coldstream Guards are now deployed on exercise in Kenya whilst numerous Welsh Guards are finishing a long deployment far away in to the Falkland Islands.

Before Harry and Meghan could go on their most awaited royal break, the royal couple has still a lot on schedule up until Remembrance Sunday.

Surrounded by elderly soldiers, recent veterans and others associated with the armed forces, the the duke and duchess stood still as the Last Post was played by a bugler during the poignant ceremony.

'She said that being pregnant in the United Kingdom without any of her family and friends felt incredibly lonely and uncomfortable for her, so she's keen to change that the second time around and would like to buck tradition to ensure she's happy - although that may ruffle feathers along the way'.
