Two Indian players arrested in growing spot-fixing scandal

Earlier, Bengaluru Police had arrested two more players and a coach involved in KPL. He moved to Goa this season after nine years with his home team Karnataka.He has also played for India A and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Daredevils in the IPL.On the other hand, Kazi, a bowling all-rounder, has played under Gautam for a few matches. Abrar Kazi represented Karnataka in Ranji matches and is now with the Mizoram team.

According to Bengaluru Police, Gautam and Kazi were paid Rs 20 lakh for "slow batting" in the final against Hubli Tigers on August 31. Also, Kazi moved across to Nagaland a year ago and was a success as he scored three scores of more than150 scores as a middle-order batsman.

Bengaluru's crime branch had the likes of Ali Asfak Thara, the owner of Belagavi Panthers; celebrity drummer Bhavesh Bafna under their radar since last month.

Gautam has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket and was Vinay Kumar's deputy for a long time.

Captain Gautam had reportedly agreed to bat slowly as long as he was at the crease, while Abrar Kazi had agreed to bowl and give away more than 10 runs a over in the finals.

Karnataka Cricket Association on Thursday announced its decision of suspending the Belagavi Panthers franchise.

"Based on the initial investigation report, the KSCA has suspended the owners of the franchise - Belagavi Panthers, one of the franchise of the Karnataka Premier League (KPL)". Also, they fixed another match against the Bengaluru team.

A total of seven people, including four players, have been arrested till now in the KPL spot-fixing case.

KSCA went on to add saying that it has been extending all possible cooperations to the investigating police in finding any such incidents and for taking necessary action against those who have committed illegal acts.

"Once the news came out, we have terminated his (Gautam's) contract and we have written to BCCI as well regarding this".

In the first match in the Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Goa will take on Baroda in Visakhapatnam.
