`Fresh Off the Boat' To End Run in February

In a statement, ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke lauded the show as "game-changing" with its focus on an Asian American family.

Variety confirmed today that Fresh Off the Boat will not be returning for a seventh season, making its upcoming sixth season its last one.

"I'm so proud of the show and what we've accomplished over the past six seasons", added series creator Khan.

However, since the most recent announcement regarding the conclusion of the "Fresh Off the Boat" series, Twitter users have been roasting Wu for her previous outbursts, joking that the actress was finally free.

The shame, of course, is that the series ending has led to a lot of jokes about star Constance Wu, who publicly expressed displeasure about the show being renewed for a sixth season due to some film offers that she would be forced to turn down.

When Fresh Off the Boat premiered in 2015, it was the first broadcast sitcom about an Asian-American family since Margaret Cho's All-American Girl in 1994.

ABC and 20th Century Fox Television, which produces the show, declined to comment. We'll move up the Huang family and are eternally grateful for the extremely heartfelt tales they've instructed these earlier six seasons. It was truly a special experience and hopefully will forever be a reminder of all the stories out there that deserve to be told. "Like (late rapper) B.I.G. said, 'And if you don't know, now you know'".

The series cast includes Constance Wu, Randall Park, Hudson Yang, Forrest Wheeler, Ian Chen, Lucille Soong, Chesley Crisp and Ray Wise. It's loosely based on Eddie Huang's memoir of the same title.

Fans of "Fresh Off the Boat" can anticipate a spinoff of the series which will be written by Rachna Fruchbom, who has already written and produced the original FOTB series. Navigating via their new life although opening a restaurant and elevating sons Eddie, Emery, and Evan, Louis (Park) and Jessica (Wu) attempt to embrace the American dream while working with wrestle, and the rift amongst diverging cultures.

New episodes of Fresh Off the Boat's now-final season air Fridays at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
