WhatsApp launches 'Catalogs' for small Indian businesses

This is a more professional-looking way for businesses to engage with their clients and keep them invested in the chat.

These product catalogs will have information like product or service name, price and description.

Therefore any company using the WhatsApp Business app will now be able to create a passable impression of an online shop entirely within WhatsApp using just a few presses and photos, with users in the United Kingdom and USA, along with Brazil, Germany, India, Indonesia and Mexico, able to try it from today.

Catalog feature on WhatsApp Business application will allow small business to showcase and share their goods to their customers through the application.

You can now shop directly through WhatsApp using virtual storefronts hosted by the messaging service.

This comes as an upgrade as businesses so far could only share product photos and information with customers one at a time using the WhatsApp Business app.

WhatsApp has tested the catalog feature with Agradaya, a sustainable herbs and spices business in Indonesia.

Earlier in 2019, Instagram stepped into a similar game with its "Checkout" feature to let users buy products from their favourite brands, without leaving the app interface.

Instant messaging app WhatsApp is not backing down from expanding its in-app features portfolio in India, even after the platform confirmed being breached by foreign spies, snooping on Indian activists and journalists. The feature is available in India along with Brazil, Germany, Indonesia, Mexico, the U.K and the US. It will be rolled out soon to the other markets across the world.

However, the WhatsApp Business catalog lacks the payment option and businesses will display a "mobile storefront" that showcases their wares with prices and images. Then tap on add product or service and add images of the product you want to sell and add the name and a short description of the product, along with links, SKU codes and save.
