Brother of Michigan State's Cassius Winston dies after struck by train

The brother of Michigan State star Cassius Winston died in a train accident on Saturday night in Albion, Michigan. The collision occurred at the pedestrian crossing just west of the Erie Street crossing.

Kipp said the investigation and an interview with the train's engineer have led police to believe that Winston stepped in front of the train intentionally.

A message left with Albion's sports information department was not immediately returned.

Winston was the middle of the three Winston brothers, who are from Detroit and played high school basketball for U-D Jesuit.

The 19-year old Winston was a sophomore on the Division III Albion men's basketball team along with youngest brother, Khy.

Albion College president Mauri A. Ditzler released a statement Sunday, but did not mention Winston's name. Beyond that, he was an extremely charismatic young man with an infectious smile. MSU basketball coach Tom Izzo released a statement on behalf of the team that said, "Our hearts are filled with sorrow for the Winston family. We have been in close contact with the student's family and are doing everything we can to support them", Ditzler said.

Michigan State, now ranked No. 1 in college basketball, is scheduled to play Binghamton on Sunday night. At this time it's unclear if Cassius Winston will be playing in the game.
