Man, juvenile shot at New Jersey high school football game

A young boy was shot while sitting in the stands, officials said.

Pleasantville is about 11 kilometres southeast of Atlantic City.

A witness to the shooting, Jonathan Diego, an alumnus of both Pleasantville High School and its football team, said he saw a man apply pressure to a "little boy's wounds" to slow the bleeding right after the gunfire.

"We're doing everything we can to make sure that their families and them are getting the medical care that they need", he added. At least six gunshots are audible in a video posted by Jersey Sports Zone, which also shows players stop mid-play, look at the stands and then turn and run.

Tyner, the prosecutor, told The Associated Press the shooting took place on the Pleasantville side of the bleachers.

One victim is a "young juvenile" and the other is a young male, said Pleasantville Police Chief Sean Riggin.

Because it is an ongoing investigation, Riggin could not provide any further information about the incident.

At this time, it does not appear that a suspect has been named.

In a game between Pleasantville and Camden, several shots could be heard ringing out in the bleachers during a punt play in the game's third quarter. "We started all running for this fence and tried to run inside the gym".
