An investigation into the cause of the collapse has been opened.

Toulouse prosecutor Dominique Alzeari said the girl's mother was rescued by witnesses after several vehicles, including hers, fell into the Tarn River on Monday morning near the village of Mirepoix-sur-Tarn.

The head of the Haute-Garonne department Georges Meric said that three vehicles were caught in the bridge collapse, without saying what happened to the third. Television images showed a auto bonnet sticking out of the fast-flowing waters and emergency service helicopters circling overhead.

Emergency workers managed to resuce four people but authorities have said several others are "probably missing".

The truck driver's body was found after a day-long search by more than 60 rescue workers, including divers, according to rescue workers and the mayor of Mirepoix-sur-Tarn, Eric Oget.

And Stokes said that comments made by David Warner while he was at the crease helped inspire him to the incredible knock. But by no means was he abusing him or sledging him", Paine said.

According to local newspaper La Dêpeche, the auto contained a 15-year-old boy and his parents and the boy died at the scene.

The bridge linked the towns of Mirepoix-sur-Tarn and Bessieres, 18 miles north of the city of Toulouse, south west France.

A driver of a truck is unaccounted for as well as a possible driver of a third auto, authorities have said.

The environment ministry said that recent inspections of the bridge had "shown no security defects".

"We never imagined that the bridge might collapse", she said, her voice choked with emotion.
