Despite the fact that Stones and Otamendi were ever-present during City's 2017-18 title success, Guardiola has opted to shift Fernandinho back into the defence while he waits for a key performer to return.

The pair - who are now the club's only fit senior specialist central defenders - have not started together since a calamitous loss to Norwich in September. Guardiola added, when pressed by a reporter about whether he was happy with the 34-year-old Fernandinho.

Summer signing Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan have been chosen over three-time Premier League victor Fernandinho in midfield by the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss. "That is why he plays".

"What Sean Dyche teams play, the way he plays they do flawless, so they have incredible success in the last years in the Premier League doing what they have done", Guardiola said.

"We are going to try to get back to winning games on Tuesday and stay positive to get on a good run and see where it takes us". Sergio Aguero scored the only goal of the match which gave Manchester City the victory.

Speaking at a press conference to preview the trip to Turf Moor, Guardiola confirmed that the striker will also miss Saturday's clash against Manchester United.

Dalton, Bengals get 1st win, as Jets fool fans again
The only reason I'm even up here is to silence the haters' mouths. "You go through it with all these guys". Tickets for this game were going for as low as $9 at kickoff, and that might be overpriced.

Manchester City travel to Burnley on Tuesday in what is a must-win tie for the Sky Blues.

"They have to believe we win tomorrow", he said.

While the result means City now need a handful of favours from Liverpool if they are to retain their title, Guardiola claimed the squad's confidence has not taken a knock following two consecutive draws in a week. "In the situation that we are in, we can not think too much about the [teams] that are in front".

"We had 26 shots, not all on target, at Newcastle".

"So I think we have to think about what we have to do to win the games and play quite similar to how we played in our [previous] games, especially the last one against Newcastle or the last 20, 25 minutes against Chelsea". What they do they do perfectly. It's not like last season when we were here when we played not well.
