The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Swain County, North Carolina, and the eastern Tennessee mountains starting at 7 p.m. Sunday and lasting until 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Video shared by Alex Gill, a resident of Duluth, shows the overnight snow accumulation filled the back of his pick-up truck.

Duluth was being socked in two directions on Saturday, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Caleb Grunzke: A storm front was bearing down on the city from the southwest, while counterclockwise winds were pulling in lake-effect snows. It was hard for emergency workers to locate the source of the problem because of the heavy snow and low visibility, though the power eventually was restored early Saturday.

The system, which has been pummeling the US since before Thanksgiving, has already dumped heavy snow from parts of California to the northern Midwest and inundating other areas with rain.

A powerful winter storm that's been tormenting travelers across the USA since before Thanksgiving moved to the Northeast on Sunday, packing one last punch of snow and ice as people make their way home after the holiday weekend.

"Please be patient with plow drivers as this is expected to be a historic storm, plowing could take longer from the amount of snow projected to fall", the city said.

Parts of California are blanketed in snow after a powerful Thanksgiving storm, with more snow expected in parts of the state over the weekend. The second of the three children turned up later on Saturday.

Another system was forecast to develop in the mid-Atlantic Sunday, moving into a nor'easter by Monday.

About 400 flights were cancelled on Saturday.

It was Woods performance in the Players Championship that really caught the eye, with rounds of 65 and 69 during the weekend. With the leaders in the US Open normally hovering around par, this produces a great opportunity for Woods to capitalize.

"We want to bring her home safely to her family", Lt. Virgil Dodd of the Gila County Sheriff's Office said. The entire state will flip from rain to snow, but there ill be flip-flopping between a wintry mix and snow on and off throughout the afternoon.

Major interstates in Colorado that closed Saturday also were reopened by Sunday morning.

NWS said that traveling during the storm could become "impossible" due to the snow and ice expected.

A 100-mile (160.93-kilometer) section of Interstate 80 in Nebraska and Wyoming closed Saturday morning because of high winds and blowing snow. The Governor also announced 524,000 tons of salt is available to help combat black ice and snowy roads.

That was added to a foot of snow that fell before Thanksgiving.

Wind gusts could reach up to 45 miles per hour in Tennessee and 50 miles per hour in North Carolina, the NWS says. A wind gust of 124kmh was reported in the mountains between Cheyenne and Laramie, Mr Lyons said.

Almost the entire lengths of both Wyoming interstates were closed Saturday.

Travel was also hard in Colorado Saturday as winds blew around snow that fell in previous days.
