A Palestinian teenager was shot dead, on Saturday night, by Israeli soldiers in the town of Beit Awwa, west of al-Khalil in the southern occupied West Bank.

The Israel Defense Forces said it was investigating the incident, during which it said dozens of rioters had approached the border and attempted to sabotage the fence, throwing explosives at Israeli troops.

Palestinian eyewitnesses said clashes broke out in the village after the young man died, and the villagers threw stones at the soldiers.

Like Reuters, Agence France Presse also published a grossly misleading headline about yesterday's West Bank firebombing attack: "Israeli army kills Palestinian in West Bank". The protests were met with a strong response from Israeli forces, who used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowds.

Last month, Pompeo announced that the US government will no longer consider Israel's West Bank settlements "inconsistent" with global law. In 2017, the Trump administration recognised Jerusalem as Israel's capital and, the following year, opened an embassy in the city.

Lawmakers now have until December 11 to find a solution or see parliament dissolved once again for a third election in 12 months.

"We are strengthening the security components in the communities of Judea and Samaria, of the Israeli citizens there", he said.

He cited a recent USA decision that it is abandoning its decades-old position that Israeli settlements on Palestinian territories are "inconsistent with global law" as a case in point, in addition to Washington's recognition of the holy city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
