The 20ft Nordmann fir tree from the Windsor Great Park, which now sits in the castle's St George's Hall, is decorated with red and gold baubles this year.

On Sunday night, upon returning from a long holiday weekend in Florida to celebrate Thanksgiving, Trump made a final walk-through at the White House, checking details of the decorations, which had been installed while she was out of town.

This year's display is a homage to "The Spirit of America".

The White House previewed the decorations for journalists on Monday before Trump and the first lady were to depart for London. "I am delighted to share this handsome exhibit of patriotism for all to see, and excited for everyone to experience the beauty of the #Christmas season", Trump tweeted.

East Room decorations are inspired by the US flag and feature gilded eagle Christmas tree toppers, mirrored stars and red and blue ribbons.

Tougher opposition awaits them with the arrival this month of New Zealand for three Tests - in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. It added to an already poor record Down Under, with Pakistan now beaten in 14 consecutive Tests on Australian shores.

Melania stars in the new 57-second video to showcase the White House's Christmas makeover, which includes lots of white light, white flowers, gold ornaments and green foliage.

"When I travel the country, I am inspired by the hard working people and families that I meet", the first lady said.

Last year, the First Lady was mocked for her choice of red Christmas decorations - people on Twittermocked a video of her walking through the "blood-red trees", comparing the scene to everything from "The Handmaid's Tale to ground meat".

"The Spirit of America" appears to strike a balance between traditional displays and Melania Trump's flair for cutting-edge style.
