Meanwhile, demand for Apple's AirPods skyrocketed, and while more cynical onlookers blamed that on the demise of the 3.5mm headphone port encouraging people to go wireless, it seems more likely that the AirPods were just that attractive of a solution by themselves.

Apple has included basic, wired EarPods with a Lightning connector in the box with iPhones for several years. And Apple isn't the only company planning to do so - the report claims Samsung and Xiaomi are looking into bundling their own truly-wireless earbuds with their flagship phones next year as well.

Once again, this news is still just a rumour, so as exciting as it may sound, it's best to treat it with a healthy dose of scepticism for now. Kuo expects Apple to release a 5.8-inch iPhone (an improvement on the current iPhone XS), a 6.5-inch iPhone (like the current iPhone XS Max) and a 6.1-inch device with a lower-cost screen (which corresponds to the iPhone XR).

For those who're unaware, Apple AirPods lineup is one of the most popular truly wireless earbuds in the market. It's hard to imagine Apple including such a costly accessory in the box with new iPhones next year without raising the price of the iPhones overall... not to mention that DigiTimes doesn't have a stellar track record with Apple rumors either. Not surprising then, that smartphone brands like Apple and Samsung would consider them as the next step in enticing future consumers towards purchasing both their phones and earbuds.

On the other hand, Apple AirPods has a retail price of $159 and it is unlikely that this is going to come with the handset for free.
