Woman rescued from Australian Outback after going missing two weeks ago

All three departed from Alice Springs to drive in the afternoon on November 19 and their auto got stuck in a riverbed at Southwest of the city.

The search will resume for two people missing in central Australia for nearly two weeks after their travelling companion was found alive.

'So sensibly she appears to have stayed where the water is and has been drinking that and that's probably what kept her going'.

Tamra McBeath-Riley, 52, was rescued late on Sunday afternoon, but her companions Claire Hockridge, 46, and Phu Tran, 40, remain missing in punishing terrain south of Alice Springs.

Ms McBeath-Riley was found near her vehicle but her companions are still missing.

Tamra McBeath-Riley was with two other people who became stranded when their vehicle got stuck in a riverbed. In January, German tourist Monika Billen was found dead near Alice Springs after she disappeared while on a hike.

Speaking to reporters outside a hospital in Alice Springs, Ms McBeath-Riley said the group had stayed by the auto for around three days in an attempt to free it.

They failed to return that night as planned.

When she was rescued, she thought the pair - who had a Global Positioning System and compass with them - would have earlier reached the highway.

Ms McBeath-Riley suffered from dehydration, exposure to poor quality water and temperatures that nudged 40C in recent days. That was my immediate thought.

In the following days NT Police conducted air searches of the Stuarts Well and Owen Springs and Henbury Station area but found no sign of the three, nor of the auto they were travelling in.

NT Police Superintendent Pauline Vicary said the trio had limited food to survive from.

McBeath-Riley told reporters the group initially survived by digging holes under their vehicle to shelter from the sun. "It's quite a diverse terrain - there's sandy dunes, there's hard clay, there's areas of dense trees but there is also rocks and ranges in the area as well".
