Ireland set for Islamic State detainee, young daughter to return from Turkey

She will be questioned again today at Kevin Street Garda Station in Dublin on suspicion of terror offences and can be held for up to three days.

She was met at the rear of the plane by officers and, wearing a pink blanket over her head, was escorted to a Garda auto and driven away.

Ms Smith has totally denied being involved in violence. "There are sympathies for her daughter - but there is the understanding that Lisa Smith needs to be questioned thoroughly".

The Irish Times say her likely defence to charges will surround the definition of the word "membership".

RTÉ said she was accompanied by three consular officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs, members of the Army Ranger Wing, and a Turkish security officer on the flight.
