Apple Reveals the Best Apps and Games of the Year

The best apps and games of 2019 are revealed in a post on the Apple Newsroom.

The latter had its own reason to celebrate elsewhere, with Nintendo's free-to-play racer topping the charts as the most downloaded free game of the year to date.

Apple's pick for the iPhone's App of the Year is Spectre Camera, the long-exposure camera app from Lux Optics, which we reviewed in February when it was released.

The digital notebook app, Flow by Moleskine, has been awarded iPad app of the year, while Mac app of the year goes to Affinity Publisher - a rival to Adobe InDesign that makes pro-level layout design affordable.

In addition to its picks of the best apps and games of 2019, Apple has also listed the top apps and games of 2019. YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video were the top free iPad apps, for example. "We congratulate all the winners and thank them for making 2019 the best year yet for the App Store".

As far as Apple Arcade, the company's subscription-based gaming service, is concerned, the Game of the Year, was Sayonara Wild Hearts.

Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Phill Schiller said that the App Store winners represent a diverse group of both large and small developers.

Neither of those critical darlings were downloaded as much as Mario Kart, Call of Duty Mobile, Fortnite, or a game with a sperm cell for an icon. Apps such as Anchor, Canva, Spark Camera, and Wattpad.
