The Cowboy from Caroline is one straight-shooter.

Edmonton Oilers (16-9-3, first in the Pacific Division) vs. "So we've had a couple of tough games and I'm looking for our team to come back and play a little bit more to the identity that we want".

Pearson scored twice, and added two assists, while Tyler Graovac, Loui Eriksson and Josh Leivo tallied the other markers for the Canucks.

The Canucks have converted on 25.7 percent of their power play opportunities this year, a figure that's good enough for fourth-best in the league.

One challenge down. Another one in Vancouver Sunday night.

The leading scorer in the National Hockey League until he was passed last week by teammate Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl did nearly nothing Sunday at even-strength. Draisaitl recorded a team-high 3 points for the Oilers.

Neal has 14 goals and been dynamite on the powerplay (10) but has six even-strength points in Oilers 28 games.

"It's a great city and I really enjoyed my time there", Gagner said. "You know they make stuff happen out there".

Indeed. And now they've blown the first. Edmonton goalie Mikko Koskinen took the loss in net for the Oilers as he allowed 4 goals on 50 Colorado shots.

And for good measure there was a Harlem Globetrotters like foray in the opening period to erase a 1-0 deficit that will find the highlight reels.

For example, Special Envoy on North Korea Stephen Biegun told lawmakers last month that "we do not have a year-end deadline". We'll see what happens. "And at least speaking for myself I have a very good personal relationship and he has with me".

Markstrom got both ends of back-to-back tests against the Oilers. The other was October 27 and October 29 against Florida and Detroit.

"You give up five you can't win in this league". The Canucks could hardly defend the superstar any better.

Canucks: 4-5-1, averaging 3.2 goals, 5.4 assists, 3.4 penalties and 7.1 penalty minutes while giving up 3.5 goals per game with a.894 save percentage. Edmonton ranks sixth in the National Hockey League shooting 10.8% and averaging 3.1 goals on 28.9 shots per game. Pearson only has 17 points all season, five against the Oilers.

The teams exchanged first-period goals. 6, Vancouver, Eriksson 1 (Horvat, Pearson), 18:04.

Back in October I spoke about how a strong October doesn't guarantee a trip to the playoffs and one need not look past the Canucks to see that is true. "To get the lead tonight hold it and keep on pushing, was a big step", said Pearson.

Graovac, who was called up by the Canucks on November 13 ripped a shot past Smith just 3:31 into the opening period. They saw the puck had smacked off the camera mounted inside the net and back out. Edmonton enters Sunday with 2 players listed on their injury report as Alex Chiasson is day to day while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is on injured reserve.

"Soft diet", said Chiasson, who isn't attacking any porterhouse steaks anytime soon. Unfortunately for the Canucks, they were reunited for Sunday's power plays.

JUST ANOTHER DAY AT OFFICE Russell's left ear is a ganglia of stitches, the lobe all black and swollen, after he took a puck in the face in Colorado. It was his first goal in seven games and his first point in three games. "They both can see the ice like most guys can't. I should have said no freezing", said Russell. One things that is usually, but not always true is that the first movie is usually better than the sequel. They only have 13 forwards at the present time with winger Joakim Nygard once again scratched. "I've had some good conversations with him way back to when I had him in Arizona".

"Obviously, it's not a pretty game, not a pretty win", Draisaitl said.
