Multiple victims reported in active shooter situation at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard

Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard is on total lockdown due to an active shooter situation.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. local time.

In the minutes after the shooting, base personnel were urged over PA system and with text messages to shelter in place.

First responders and security forces are on scene and reportedly said they have the situation "under control as of now". "I looked out the window and saw three people on the ground", a witness told local TV channel Hawaii News Now.

In the Var region, an owner of a stable was found dead after he was swept away while he was watching over his animals. Their EC145 helicopter lost radio and radar contact while on a rescue and reconnaissance flight in the Var region.

Hawaii News Now reports the shooting has left at least three people injured, two of which are said to be critical. The report also says that civilians are among the victims in the shooting.

"#BREAKING: A portion of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam is on lockdown because of an apparent active shooter situation; multiple victims reported, per law enforcement source", the news outlet wrote on Twitter.

The shipyard is across the harbor from the Pearl Harbor National Memorial, which on Saturday will mark the 78th anniversary of the attack by Japan that propelled the US into World War II.
