The service will offer series and movies - including content from Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM), Warner Bros.

Plex today officially launched its new ad-supported streaming video service in more than 200 countries. The service is supported by ads, so it works a lot like the video-on-demand services you'd get through a cable or satellite provider, only in this case you don't need a subscription to anything.

Plex's free media can be played on nearly all platforms, including Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad, along with Roku, smart TVs, Android devices, and consoles. The bad news? Plex Pass customers will still have to put up with ads, just like non-paying customers.

Although certain shows and movies may be unavailable in particular areas due to local content licensing agreements, Plex stated that the "vast majority" of content will be accessible worldwide.

CDC estimates 154,000 Americans have HIV but don't know it
Percentages were lowest among people ages 13-24 (57%), blacks/African Americans (57%), and men who inject drugs (52%). Ongoing HIV lab testing, which is required for individuals to qualify for Truvada, will not be covered.

Per TechCrunch, the offering will serve both pre-roll and traditional ad breaks albeit with an ad load that is up to 60 percent less than traditional television. Theres a new dedicated “Free to Watch” category on the app which makes it easy to keep using Plex to consume your own media content.

The launch of the streaming service was announced earlier today through a blog post on Plex's official website. There is no subscription or special hardware required, though the content will include ads.

Plex right now is primarily offering programmatic advertising. Plex notes some of the content might be region-restricted but most can be watched all over the world.
