Former Notre Dame football player George Atkinson III dies at 27

George Atkinson III, a former football player at Notre Dame and in the NFL, has died at age 27, multiple outlets report. Josh played 11 games as a defense. However, he scored a touchdown for the Browns in 2016.

Atkinson III went on to play in the NFL. Both were part of Notre Dame's 2011 recruiting class. In 2014, he signed with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent.

George informed he was hospitalized in a mental ward for self-harm after his brother died. Shortly after his brother's death, he mourned to his Instagram account.

In his tweet, Sampson claimed Atkinson III had been "dealing with depression since the death of his twin brother". Thank you for your love and support.
