Ruiz v Joshua II: Weight gain ‘a psychological thing’ for champion

Ruiz, by comparison, has put on more than a stone to weigh in at 20 stone 3 lbs as he looks to retain the IBF, WBA and WBO titles he gained during the shock seventh round stoppage of previously undefeated Joshua.

Ahead of the rematch dubbed clash of dunes, Joshua's appears to be 237lbs in weight, 10.8lbs lighter than the first fight.

Joshua is more than five kilograms (11 pounds) lighter than when he lost the first fight.

The heavyweight champion had earlier hinted he would be dropping 10lbs of his weight ahead of rematch.

The Mexican's trainer, Manny Robles, had said that Ruiz was too heavy fighting at 121kg in NY and was only that weight because he fought at late notice.

Ruiz, who wore a black tank-top to cover his portly frame, took to the scales to jeers in front of a mostly pro-Joshua crowd at a weigh-in that was staged on a grassy section outside a five-star hotel in central Riyadh.

Should he dominate the rematch like he did their initial fight, he just might get a deal.

On the other hands, his opponent Andy Ruiz weighs in at 283lbs, 15lb heavier than the first fight.
