While Prince William looked polished to a T in his tuxedo, it was his wife that truly stole the show in her navy velvet Alexander McQueen gown.

Kate Middleton pulled out all the stops for Wednesday night's diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace. Kate, alongside Prince William, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, were the guests of honour at the annual white tie Diplomatic Corps reception at Buckingham Palace, which hosts members of the diplomatic community.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore the Queen's jewels and a tiara owned by Princess Diana. News, the Lover's Knot tiara was created for Queen Mary - Queen Elizabeth's grandmother - in 1914, and was made from pearls and diamonds.

Kate Middleton always makes sure she has an element of Princess Diana with her on every occasion.

General election 2019: Farage promises Reform Party after Brexit
His comments come after he announced the Brexit Party would change its name to the Reform Party after Britain's exit from the EU. But the pitch Mr Farage has made up and down the country at rallies is that "there will be no Brexit without the Brexit Party ".

The duchess, who joined the Duke of Cambridge at the event, paired the tiara with shimmering drop earrings and a matching statement necklace. It was seen for the first time in June, at the State Reception attended by US President Donald Trump.

It's hard to imagine a more headline-grabbing accessory than the tiara, but her dramatic diamond necklace, she borrowed another statement piece from Queen Elizabeth's extensive jewellery collection: the Nizam of Hyderabad necklace. She completed her look with a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order on her blue sash bestowed to her by the Queen.

The Diplomatic Corps reception witnessed over 1,000 guests attend it. Ambassadors, high commissioners and government officials were among the attendees of the white-collar event.

Kate also wore the Royal Family Order - a yellow ribbon with a portrait of the Queen surrounded by diamonds - on her chest.
