Ridge said he is leaving it up to Congress as to whether Trump should be impeached.

Trump will be impeached if the House approves any of the articles of impeachment the House Judiciary Committee has recommended by a simple majority vote.

Manchin is a moderate Democrat whose home state of West Virginia gave Trump 68.5 percent of the vote in the 2016 elections, the largest margin of any state in the U.S.

To no one's surprise, President Trump refused to keep quiet Tuesday after House Democrats introduced articles of impeachment against him.

According to the nation's constitution, the House shall have the sole power of impeachment while the Senate shall have the sole power to try all impeachments.

If the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee votes to approve the articles later this week, they will then be submitted to the lower chamber for a full vote.

The impeachment process was launched after an anonymous whistleblower complained to Congress in September about a July phone call by Mr Trump to the president of Ukraine.

"You're so lucky I became your president", he told cheering supporters.

Saudi Aramco shares open 10% above IPO price, garners $1.88 trillion valuation
If Aramco shares gain 10% on both Wednesday and Thursday, it will exceed the $2 trillion valuation coveted by Prince Mohammed. Demand during the bookbuilding period for Aramco's IPO reached $106 billion, with most of that generated by Saudi investment.

During Democratic President Bill Clinton's 1999 impeachment trial, no witnesses testified on the Senate floor.

The articles of impeachment accuse Trump of enlisting a foreign government, Ukraine, in "corrupting" the US election process by asking for the Biden investigation and endangering national security at the same time he was temporarily withholding $391 million in military aid Kyiv, a USA ally, wanted to help fight pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine.

After initially saying he wanted a full-blown, potentially lengthy trial in the Republican-led Senate, Trump appeared to be leaning toward the idea of having a shorter proceeding there that would allow him to move quickly past the threat to his presidency, two sources familiar with the situation said on Wednesday. "Such conduct is clearly impeachable". Hunter Biden joined the board of a Ukrainian energy company when his father was President Obama's deputy.

He insists he has done "nothing wrong" and dismissed the process as "madness".

The second Trump demand was that Ukraine should try to corroborate a conspiracy theory that Ukraine, not Russian Federation, had interfered in the last U.S. presidential election.

House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerrold Nadler contended that Trump "sees himself as above the law".

President Richard Nixon resigned before he could be impeached. A majority of Democratic representatives have indicated they will support the articles.
