Now, Microsoft have revealed their plans, with the Xbox Series X console set for release as soon as the "next holiday season".

Microsoft revealed the name and look of its next Xbox console on Thursday night, unveiling the new Xbox "Series X" with a hardware design that quickly drew comparisons to a mini PC tower.

Of course, that's rather appropriate, considering it will be an extraordinarily powerful machine. Despite looking to the future, Microsoft's new Xbox Series X will be compatible with "thousands" of games from past Xbox generations, as well as all of the Xbox One gaming accessories and existing services like Xbox Game Pass. 8K playback is also supported, along with technologies like Variable Refresh Rate and Variable Rate Shading.

"If previous reports are to believed about Project Scarlett actually being two consoles and the less powerful version called "Lockhart" is to be disc-less all digital device, then the Xbox Series X is the more powerful Anaconda model as it features the disc drive". "Where you are at the center of your gaming experience".

As part of the new Feature drop , Pixel users can now blur the background of an image even when the portrait mode was not used. Google is going to start giving the Pixel line more than just monthly security updates and yearly major OS updates.

Revealed alongside the Xbox Series X was the new Xbox Wireless Controller which looks largely the same as the current controller. It was also mentioned that the console is "designed for a future in the cloud". Additionally, cross-generation gameplay is expectedt o be available for at least Xbox Game Studios titles. Spencer writes that the Series X's design "signifies our belief that a gaming console should be for just that - gaming".

Microsoft didn't mention any pricing for Xbox Series X or a specific release date.

"Developers around the globe are already hard at work building games for Xbox Series X", said Spencer. But with Microsoft teasing big plans for 2020, it shouldn't be long until we hear news on this front. Although this is pure speculation until the "Lockhart" console gets announced.
