Electric automaker Tesla will begin delivering its Model 3 vehicles in China at the start of next week, the company said Friday. The announcement follows Tesla's long wait for an official sales approval of the vehicle.

The China-made cars are priced at 355,800 yuan ($50,000) before subsidies and Tesla has said it wants to start deliveries before Chinese new year beginning on January 25. Tesla said 15 Model 3 cars are at the first delivery.

A lucky group of Tesla employees will receive the first 15 cars on December 30 - less than a year after the company broke ground on its first factory outside the USA, according to the representative.

The Chinese government has also been supportive of the factory.

Tesla's manufacturing plant in Shanghai is the company's first outside the United States and is China's first wholly foreign-owned auto plant.

Tesla has sealed agreements for up to $1.3 billion in loans from Chinese banks, according to a Thursday regulatory filing. Then there were reports that Tesla is considering reducing prices for cars made in China to a fifth. Beijing's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology included the Model 3 on its list of exempted products.

The launch would also provide clues about Tesla's ability to truly go global.

Electric automaker Tesla will start delivering its Model 3 vehicles to China early next week, the company said Friday.

Tesla's production capacity in Shanghai probably isn't very high-volume to begin with, although the company has said previously it was targeting a production rate of around 1,000 cars per week by year's end, with potential to ramp up to around 3,000 cars per week.
