Plenty of other ceremonies and nominations have also been occurring, but the top prize in the film world is the Academy Awards.

While the all-male domination of the category might suggest to some that female directors did not have as many creative opportunities, women helmed several highly-acclaimed films over the previous year, between Lulu Wang's The Farewell, Marielle Heller's A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Lorene Scafaria's Hustlers and Greta Gerwig's Little Women.

"Congratulations to those men", Rae 35, quipped with a sarcastic tone after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science left out female directors from the category. Saoirse Ronan is referencing Greta Gerwig's movies Little Women and Lady Bird, both of which she starred in.

Upon getting out of the vehicle, Dina was also "unsteady on her feet and fell to the ground on her face", the complaint says. The driver called police and followed Lohan to her Long Island home when she didn't stop.

I'm really happy that the Academy recognized [Gerwig] for Adapted Screenplay and Picture, and I feel like if you've been nominated for Best Picture, you have essentially been nominated for Best Director. She will be facing competition from Cynthia Erivo (Harriet), Scarlett Johansson (Marriage Story), Charlize Theron (Bombshell) and Renee Zellweger (Judy). Gerwig did receive a nomination for best adapted screenplay. At the tender age of 13, Saoirse Ronan had received the supporting actress nomination for her terrific performance in the film called Atonement in the year 2008.

The nominations had some surprises, with Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce missing out on their first Oscar nominations.

One user even invoked a Little Women meme. I can't believe it's happened again, but I don't really know how to solve it.
