Beyoncé's "Spirit" from "The Lion King" was absent from the original song list, Jennifer Lopez's role in "Hustlers" didn't receive any Academy accolades, and Awkwafina won't become the second Asian American nominated for best actress for "The Farewell". You know we're probably going to watch the February 9th ceremony anyway - but if the night doesn't end with the words "and the Oscar for best picture goes to.Parasite", you can be certain our knives will be out. In the ceremony's 90 years of existence, the Academy has only nominated five female directors and awarded one: Kathryn Bigelow, who won in 2009 for The Hurt Locker.

Australian actresses Toni Collette, 47, and Eliza Scanlen, 21, also missed out on nods in the same category for their performances in Knives Out and Little Women. "Congratulations to those men", she said, after the all-male honorees were listed for the category. First, Phillips scooped up double nominations for both the screenplay category and directing.

But in a possible sign of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' increasingly global outlook, "Parasite" became just the sixth non-English language movie to be nominated for both best foreign-language film and best picture. Director Bong Joon Ho also received a nod for best director.

Movie lovers expected films like "Once Upon A Time.In Hollywood" and actresses like Scarlett Johansson to score Oscar nominations, but the "Beyhive" may not be too pleased that Beyoncé did not make the cut.

"Honeyland", a documentary about a keeper of wild bees in North Macedonia, achieved the rare double of being nominated for best global film and best documentary feature.

Tom Hanks, nominated for best supporting actor for "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood", has been nominated for six acting Oscars, winning twice, but this is the first time he has been nominated in the supporting actor category.

Renee Zellweger, who has swept the best actress nominations so far during this awards season, headed the best actress Oscar shortlist thanks to her acclaimed turn as showbiz legend Judy Garland in "Judy".

"It's the kind of story we don't see often enough and it's exactly what Michelle and I hope to achieve", tweeted former president Barack Obama, adding he was "glad" to see the nomination.
