During the jury selection process, Hadid told the Judge that she had previously met both Weinstein and potential witness Salma Hayek. On the fifth day of jury selection, the 24-year-old socialite was summoned by the court along with 119 other prospective jurors for the case slated to begin January 22.

On Monday morning, after the Oscar nominations were announced, onetime awards potentate Harvey Weinstein returned to a New York City courtroom, where he stands trial for rape. More than 100 jurors have reportedly filled out questionnaires about their backgrounds and whether they'd remain impartial in the case. Weinstein, 67, is accused of raping a woman in a Manhattan hotel room in 2013 and sexually assaulting another in 2006. The panel ruled against a plaintiff who claimed he was seriously scalded in the shower by a blast of hot water.

Ex-Pope Benedict undercuts Francis on priests and celibacy
A majority of bishops at the synod in October said married men should be ordained to offer a supply for the shortage of priests. Mark Brumley, the president of Ignatius Press, however, denounced such conspiracies and said Benedict isn't being used.

Michael Bloomberg was considered for a civil case while mayor in 2007, but the current Democratic presidential candidate was ultimately sent home over fears his admittedly "strong personality" would dominate the jury. She was asked to return Thursday for additional questioning.

Both sides hope to deliver opening statements before the end of the month.

Justice James Burke denied the request, noting that he expected the protest would not be the last. The filmmaker is now facing life in prison over criminal charges that he raped woman in a NY hotel room in 2013, and forcibly performed oral sex on another woman in Manhattan in 2006. Dozens of prospective jurors were dismissed last week after revealing various connections with Weinstein or conceding they have closely followed media coverage of the case. They're being introduced as a group to Weinstein and read a list of names that could come up at trial, including Hayek and actresses Charlize Theron and Rosie Perez.

Since 2017, more than 80 women, including many famous actresses, have accused him of sexual misconduct dating back decades.
