Ireland's Prime Minster Leo Varadkar said on Sunday he had made a decision on the timing of a general election but would meet with his cabinet on Tuesday before announcing the date.

It has been confirmed that the President's schedule today is light and can easily accommodate an audience with Mr Varadkar to formally dissolve the 32nd Dail and commence the three and a half week campaign.

"Brexit is not done yet", the prime minister said, adding that the next step is to negotiate a free trade agreement that "protects our jobs, our businesses, our rural communities".

Varadkar, 40, became the once-staunchly Catholic country's first gay premier in 2017, a year after the last election, when his party hoped a generational shift could lead them to a third successive term for the first time.

Snow continues for 2nd day in Kashmir, night temp improves
Power offer has actually already been disturbed at numerous locations within the Kashmir Valley as a result of snowfall. The ski resort of Gulmarg was at minus 5 degrees, while Pahalgam settled at a minimum of minus 2.7 degrees Celsius.

It will be the first general election on a Saturday since the foundation of the State in 1922.

Fine Gael lost all four special elections for vacant parliamentary seats in November, and the most recent opinion poll indicates Varadkar's party is running level with its closest rival, Fianna Fail, at about 27%.

"It clearly is a time for a new government that will really focus on tangible improvements in health, housing and reducing the cost of living", Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin told reporters. This time, the Greens and the Labor Party, are potential king makers.
