After holding off a late charge from James Holzhauer, Ken Jennings has been crowned the victor of "Jeopardy!".

Holzhauer won Night 2 while Jennings won Nights 1, 3 and 4. Jennings recounted how his son, who was 2 years old when he was first on the program, is now 17 and considering colleges primarily based on their sports teams and marching bands.

"I want to reassure Ken", Holzhauer quipped. Unfortunately for Holzhauer, he has been unable to find many Daily Double clues during the games. The winners will be decided by total points, per the "Jeopardy!".

Jennings' win Tuesday night was marked by some big-time gambles in the first half. Both Holzhauer and Jennings answer "Arcadia" correctly to the question "This area of Greece, home to Pan, is synonymous with a rural paradise; it's a setting for Virgil's shepherd poems the "Eclogues".

But that was enough to beat Holzhauer, who incorrectly answered Horatio.

The answer was: "He has 272 speeches the most of any non-title character in a Shakespeare tragedy".

"It's gotten to be that kind of competition, hasn't it?" joked Trebek.

"You're the best, Alex!" Holzhauer wagered $44,000 to double his $44,000 total, landing him at a total identical to Rutter - zero. Holzhauer and Rutter exited with $250,000.

"It's true, and I should get credit for it", he said.

The event was prompted after Holzhauer went on an incredible run in 2019, winning more than $1 million in 32 victories.

Jeopardy's! all time earning record is still held by Brad Rutter, who, during his five-day winning streak in 2000, won $55,102 as well as two cars. Rutter has never lost to a human opponent during regular play, though he did lose to the IBM computer Watson in a special episode.

James Holzhauer, also known as Jeopardy James, holds the top 15 single-day winning records on Jeopardy!
