Mickey Mouse has killed Fox. Decisions on the name of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox 21 Television Studios have not been made at this time, but discussions are taking place.

Variety reports that Disney is rebranding the studios it bought from Fox past year.

Say goodbye to 20th Century Fox (and Fox Searchlight, too). According to a source for the outlet, a consensus has not been reached about a possible name change.

Disney has already started the process to phase out the Fox name: Email addresses have changed for Searchlight staffers, with the address replaced with a address. Walt Disney bought most of Murdoch's entertainment assets past year in a $71.3bn deal, including the 20th Century Fox studio and Fox Searchlight. Its famous searchlight logo has shone before some of the biggest movies in Hollywood history, including Alien, Avatar, Die Hard, Home Alone and Planet of the Apes.

A month ago when Fox Searchlight emails had dropped the Fox, there was a sense that the full integration of the former Rupert Murdoch-owned studio was in full effect at Disney.

The move from the Fox brand separates Disney from the Fox Corporation, which continues to run things like Fox Sports, Fox News and the Fox TV channel, as they were not sold to Disney. With the Fox name commonly associated with the CEO and the controversial right-wing news network, insiders have described Disney's rebranding of the film and television divisions as 'inevitable, ' with one insider telling Variety, "I think the Fox name means Murdoch, and that is toxic".
