High winds, snow expected in the mountains Friday

Snow spreads across northern Minnesota during the afternoon hours and may reach Grand Marais, Minn., by early evening.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in place from 6 AM Friday until 6 PM Saturday for the southern two tiers of counties plus Adair, Madison, Warren, Audubon, and Guthrie county.

NWS reports that the snow is likely to change to rain after 10 p.m on Saturday night.

Precipitation will continue into Friday morning in the form of snow, sleet, and freezing rain/drizzle.

Plan on hazardous travel conditions after midnight Thursday night into Friday morning due to snow, sleet, and ice.

Snow will taper off Saturday for most areas, but lake effect snow could continue in some areas until Tuesday. On Thursday morning, it appears that Dane County and areas to the south will see that mix into early Saturday morning.

"Travel could be very hard to impossible", the watch said. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility Friday into Saturday.

Chill Advisory tonight, Winter Storm Watch Friday through Saturday.Wind Chills fall between -20 to -35 tonight. As a result, morning highs will top out in the middle 20s to lower 30s, then drop through the day. Look for hgihs in the single digits and teens and lows in the single digits above and below zero. Winds could gust as high as 45 miles per hour. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

In the end, snow/sleet totals could be as much as 2 to 4 inches in Eastern Nebraska with 0 to 2 inches for Central and Western Nebraska.
