As my colleague Rita pointed out last year, Chinese smartphone makers have launched sub-brands in recent years to launch handsets that deviate from their company's brand image. While rumors of Poco F2 are gaining momentum, Xiaomi has dropped important news for the Indian smartphone market.

Xiaomi, one of the leading smartphone brands in India, today announced a major change in the company's structure by making Poco a standalone brand in itself. Poco started its operation in 2018 as a sub-brand of Xiaomi.
