WhatsApp down: Users unable to send stickers, media files

People are able to send messages on the platform, however, people are not able to send media files, Gifs, voice notes and more.

There were no complaints raised on normal text messages as users could send and receive them normally. The map also shows that Europe is also facing severe outage.

Down Detector reported an increase in users reporting problems with the app on Sunday morning, January 19. But Facebook is still aiming to bring advertising to the Instagram Stories-style Status feature within the messaging app sometime in 2020. Although, the company is not totally canceling the ad plans for WhatsApp, they are only making it a long term goal because they feel that the app is not yet ready for advertisement or monetizing.

However, the things got sorted and the app is working fine now.

Sunday's service failures are the latest in a series of outages to afflict the app, with a major incident in March a year ago leaving users cut off for almost an entire day.

And another adding: "Whatsapp is down around the world!" After the 99 cent yearly subscription fees were removed back in 2016, this was the first time that Facebook again chose to monetize WhatsApp but it is again backing off.

"During our analysis of every internet shutdown in 2019, some general trends emerged", the report said.

Samuel Woodhams, a digital rights expert and co-author of the report, told The Independent that WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption makes it a platform of choice for people trying to keep information confidential in turbulent times, such as protests the regime.
