Royals announce former owner David Glass passed away last week

"Like so many Kansas Citians, I am deeply saddened by the news of David's passing", John Sherman, the Royals' new owner, said in a statement. Glass, a Missouri native who made his fortune as a Wal-Mart executive, originally purchased the club from the estate of Ewing Kauffman for $96 million. He changed into once 84 years broken-down. Glass and his family acquired the Royals in 2000 and it was at that time that he began his second career, a career in baseball, at age 64.

During his time as an owner with the fans experienced many ups and downs, he put together an operations team that eventually put together teams that went to consecutive World Series seasons and won the Major League Baseball crown in 2015.

The Royals endured many 100-loss seasons, and they became known for trading top talent while refusing to sign notable free agents.

Glass bought the club in April 2000.

"Personally, I will miss our weekly conversations because David Glass had a huge impact on my life".

"His voice among other owners was so respected; he served on and led several Major League Baseball committees to better our game". His passion for baseball and his love for Kansas City were the driving force behind the success of this franchise in the field.

Glass was elected to the board of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, too.

Glass is survived by his wife, Ruth, and three children - Dan, Don and Dayna Martz.

"Due to his authentic humility, we think David Glass may be the most under-appreciated CEO in the history of business", said Doug McMillon, the current president and CEO of Walmart.

Glass died January 9, the family said, adding that a memorial will be held January 27 at Northwest Arkansas Fellowship Bible Church in Rogers, Arkansas. "He'll be missed", while shortstop Adalberto Mondesi shared, "[I am] saddened by his departure but I know he will continue to look over us".
