Toyota to move Tocoma pickup production from USA to Mexico

Toyota Motor Corp has poured more money into yet another North American plant to boost production of the SUVs and trucks USA customers increasingly seek instead of sedans. In an angry tweet, Trump in 2017 had downplayed Toyota's decision to ship its production of the Corolla sedan to Mexico, and the company eventually continued production in the United States.

On top of that, the No. 1 automaker in Japan had also added in its Friday's (January 17th) statement that it would end production of its Toyota Sequoia in IN by 2022 in order to focus more on to mid-sized SUVs (Sports Utility Vehicles) alongside minivans over the narratives of a sluggish demand of passenger cars.

Toyota said the moves are created to improve "operational speed, competitiveness and transformation at its North American vehicle assembly plants based on platforms and common architectures".

Toyota will shift production of the Sequoia in 2022 to Texas and that plant will end production of the Tacoma by late 2021.

This move will make room for more production of full-size trucks and SUVs in its San Antonio, Texas, facility, which will absorb production of the Sequoia SUV from its current Princeton, Indiana facility. Last month, Toyota's Guanajuato plant began assembly of the Tacoma.

The plant has over 7,000 employees and has the capacity to assemble more than 420,000 vehicles annually, the company said.

The Princeton plant recently got an investment of $700 million and 150 workers to boost production of the redesigned Highlander SUV and Sienna minivan.

But that will be completed in 2021, the company said in a statement, and all production will then take place at a plant in Baja California, Mexico.

The announcement came a day after the US Senate approved the new US-Mexico Canada Agreement on trade, which importantly revamps the rules for manufacturing and cross-border trade in autos. "Our $1.3 billion investment at TMMI is further proof that our Hoosier workforce is rededicated to producing safer, high-quality vehicles our customers love to drive". With this move, Toyota will put an end to the production of Seuquoia SUV in its in plant by 2022.

Extra autos might maybe well also very successfully be added in the waste as Toyota introduced a $391 million funding for multi-automobile production capabilities closing summer season.

Toyota says no U.S.jobs will seemingly be misplaced as a results of any of the production moves.
