Shikhar Dhawan ruled out of New Zealand T20Is with shoulder injury

India opener Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the upcoming five-T20I series in New Zealand because of the shoulder injury he picked up during the third ODI against Australia in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Besides the T20s, India play three ODIs and two matches as part of the World Test Championship.

Dhawan hurt his left shoulder while fielding in the third and final ODI.

Soon, the batsman was seen clutching his shoulder before he walked off the field for medical assessment.

Dhawan was then taken for tests and he didn't return to the field to open the batting for the Men in Blue. He was later spotted in the Indian dressing room with his arm in a sling as India won by seven wickets.

India, in reply, opener with K.L. Rahul and Rohit after Shikhar Dhawan had to be taken for an x-ray. Dhawan did not travel with the India squad that left for Auckland on Monday and the selectors have not named a replacement yet.

The Indian team are already in New Zealand and will play five-match T20I series from January 24.

India's squad for the three-match ODI series: Virat Kohli (C), Rohit Sharma (VC), Prithvi Shaw, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Rishabh Pant (WK), Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Navdeep Saini, Shardul Thakur, Kedar Jadhav.

Last time Dhawan missed an India series was the West Indies T20Is at home in December past year owing to an injury and Mayank Agarwal, who opens for India in Test cricket, was named his replacement.
