Amazon India to include 10,000 EVs in delivery fleet by 2025

In September, last year, the company announced its plan to eliminate single-use plastic in its packaging from Amazon India's Fulfilment Centers by June 2020, among other initiatives to reduce packaging waste.

These EVs are in addition to the global commitment of 100,000 EVs in the delivery fleet by 2030 announced in the climate pledge signed by Amazon. The video shows Bezos and a few more drivers in action with the brand's new all-electric delivery rickshaws.

Amazon, the world's biggest online retailer, said on Monday that its fleet of delivery vehicles in the country will include 10,000 electric vehicles (EVs) by 2025 in India.

The move is part of the retail giant's Climate Pledge to reduce its carbon emission and also switch to renewable energy. This year itself, Amazon India will operate its electric vehicle delivery fleet in in over 20 cities in the country, including major cities like Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Nagpur, and Pune, the company said in a press statement.

Since Bezos has been in India, he has announced a $1 billion investment program, attended the Amazon Prime Video event, and flew kites with some local children. "It's a fully electric zero carbon one".

The new wave of employment opportunities will support Amazon's growth in the region and will span the e-tailer's business ventures, including retail, content creation, and manufacturing.

Bezos and Sanchez have been making the rounds in India, which has been met with controversy.
